Bass Strait, Australia

Australian fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus doriferus) are the largest of the fur seals and inhabit the cool waters of southeastern Australia. They hunt mainly for fish and squid, often travelling several hundred kilometres in a week. They return to islands to rest, suckle their young and breed. More information can be found in the photo story pages. These images were taken at Kanowna Island, Seal Rocks and Lady Julia Percy Island, off the Victorian coast.
